WWHo is the Holy Spirit? What is He Like? As the revealer of the Scriptures, He often places all the emphasis on revealing to us the Father and His Son, selflessly staying in the background, knowing the Father and Son must be revealed before we come into "the more intimate fellowship with Himself." It's primarily through His works, both within us and without, that we come to an understanding of the Spirit. Who He is is bound forever to the understanding that all glory belongs to God alone. This is the foundation of Abraham Kuyper's writing in AMG's Concise Works of the Holy Spirit.AMG's Concise Works of the Holy SpiritAMG's Concise Works of the Holy Spirit.
Most of the writings about the Holy Spirit deal with only one aspect or work we have books on the gifts, on the work of the Holy Spirit in salvation (and the part the human will play in it) on sanctification, on inspiration, on prayer. Kuyper then declares the inward works of the Holy Spirit, which he does in two parts. In the first part, Kuyper deals with the words of the Holy Spirit that have to do with our salvation and justification. In the second part, Kuyper expounds the works of the Holy Spirit that come after our salvation.
Abraham Kuijper, generally known as Abraham Kuyper, was a Dutch politician, journalist, statesman and theologian. He founded the Anti-Revolutionary Party and was prime minister of the Netherlands between 1901 and 1905.
In May 1862 he was declared eligible for the ministry and 1863 he accepted a call to become minister for the Dutch Reformed Church for the town of Beesd. Around 1866 he began to sympathize with the orthodox tendency within the Dutch Reformed Church. He was inspired by the simple reformed faith of Pietje Balthus, a farmer's wife. He began to oppose the centralization in the church, the role of the King and began to plead for the separation of church and state.
In North America, Kuyper's political and theological views have had a significant impact, especially in the Reformed community. He is considered the father of Dutch Neo-Calvinism and had considerable influence on the thought of philosopher Herman Dooyeweer
