there came = was brought. Why assume that Elijah then sent it? It might have "come" as Holy Scripture comes to us to-day, though written in the past. It does not say a "letter" (which would be 'iggereth, or sepher , a book), but michetab, any writing, written at any time; probably a prophetic writing to be delivered at this particular time. Elijah. Long since raptured (2 Kings 2:0 ; Compare 2 Chronicles 3:11 ). This is the only mention of Elijah in Chronicles. read more

THAT WRITING FROM ELIJAH REGARDING JEHORAM"Moreover he made high places in the montains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, and led Judah astray. And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, but hast walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of... read more

2 Chronicles 21:12. From Elijah the prophet— It being plain from 2Ki 2:11 that Elijah was taken up into heaven in the time of Jehoshaphat, the question is, how could Elijah send his son a letter. Josephus and others imagine, that this writing was indited by Elijah in heaven, and sent to Jehoram by the ministry of angels: but there is no reason to suppose that so singular a miracle was wrought in favour of an idolatrous prince, who had Moses and the prophets, which, in our Saviour's opinion,... read more

On this account, as well as for his unnatural cruelties, divine vengeance was denounced against him, which was soon after executed exactly as the prophet had foretold. A series of overwhelming calamities befell this wicked king; for in addition to the revolts already mentioned, two neighboring tribes (see... read more

Expository Notes of Dr. Thomas Constable - 2 Chronicles 21:1-20

E. Jehoram ch. 21The events from Jehoram’s reign that the Chronicler selected present a classic example of the consequences that follow departing from Yahweh. The king violated God’s will by murdering his brothers (2 Chronicles 21:4) and practicing idolatry (2 Chronicles 21:6)."Jehoram is the first king of the Davidic line of whom the Chronicler’s judgment is totally negative." [Note: Williamson, 1 and 2 . . ., p. 303.] "There is both irony and retributive justice in that Jehoram sets in motion... read more
