We have here Christ preaching, and may observe, 1. When Christ preached this sermon; it was the same day that he preached the sermon in the foregoing chapter: so unwearied was he in doing good, and working the works of him that sent him. In this chapter, we have, I. The favour which Christ did to his countrymen in preaching the kingdom of heaven to them, Matt. 13:1-2. He preached to them in parables, and here gives the reason why he chose that way of instructing, Matt. 13:10-17. And the evangelist gives another reason, Matt. 13:34, 35.
