(c.751-827) Abbot. Grandson of Charles Martel, he was prime minister to Pepin the Short, and adviser to Louis le Debonnaire. In 773 he had entered the Benedictine Abbey of Corbie and c.775was elected abbot. He is honored as a patron in many churches and towns in France and along the lower Rhine.
