Abarca, Pedro a Spanish Jesuit, was born at Jaca, in Aragon, in 1619. He entered the Society of Jesuits in 1641, and, after teaching theology at Salamanca for more than twenty-five years, died at Valencia, Oct. 11, 1693. He wrote, A History of the Kings of Aragon (1682-84), in Spanish: — and treatises on The Knowledge and Will of God, Predestination, The Trinity, and The Incarnation and Perfection of Jesus Christ, all in Latin. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
