Gabata (or Gabbatha)
properly a bowl; hence a pensile lamp of similar form, for a church, made of different metals-gold, silver, brass, and electrum. These lamps were frequently embossed, or decorated in bass-relief, and ornamented with lilies, heads of gryphons or lions, or even fashioned in the form of these animals. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock.
