Gadsby, William a noted English Baptist minister, was born at Attleborough in January, 1773. He was early converted among the Congregationalists, baptized in 1793, ordained in 1800, was pastor at Hinckley until 1805, and thereafter at Manchester until his death, January 27, 1844. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
