He was wild and even reckless in his youth, but finally became interested in his studies, and evinced greater skill as a translator than his father. He died about 1230. Besides translating philosophical works both of Jewish and heathen authors, among whom were Aristotle and Alfarabi he wrote a commentary on Ecclesiastes (קהלת פירוש ), which exists in MS. in several of the European libraries; and a commentary on Genesis 1:1-9, entitled מאמר יקוו המים (Presburg, 1837), being a dissertation on the creation, Gratz Gesch. d. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
