Jacob, Stephen a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born at Argyle, N. Y., Feb. 23, 1789; was converted in Feb. 1810; entered the itinerancy in June, 1812; was superannuated in 1818; and died April 24, 1819. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
