Laan, Peter a Dutch theologian, was born December 24, 1696. He studied at Utrecht and Leyden, and acted as preacher at different places from 1722 to 1739. In the latter year he was called as professor of theology and university preacher to Franeker, and died April 4, 1743. He published, Disp. ad Inscript. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
