Lagarto, Pedro a Portuguese prelate and theologian, was born at Setubal about 1524. In 1540 he joined the monks of Arrabida, who lived under the rule of St. Francis; afterwards studied theology at Salamanca, and was elected in 1576 provincial of Arrabida. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
