Mack, Martin Joseph a Roman Catholic theologian of Germany, was born February 17, 1805. In 1832 he was professor of New-Test, exegesis at Tublngen, and in 1839-40 rector magnificus of the university. His publication of Die Einsegnung der gemischten Ehen (Tubingen, 1840) brought him in conflict with the government. He was deposed from his office, and relegated to the Ziegelbach parish in Wiirtemberg. He died September 24, 1885, leaving, Bericht uber Strauss' kritische Bearbeitung des Lebens Jesu (Tubingen, 1837): — Commentar uber die Pastoral briefe des Apostels Paulus (2d ed. 1841). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
