Valesio, Giovanni Luigi an Italian painter arid engraver, was born at Bologna in 1561. He studied in the school of the Caracci and executed several works for the churches of his native city, such as The Scourging of Christ, in the Church of San Pietro; The Annunciation, at the Church of the Meudicanti; and St. Rochk Curing the Sick of the Plague, in the Church of San Rocco. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
