This Sunday we are going to be contemplating Jesus Grand Entrance into Jerusalem. As the modern-day Church, we refer to that day in history as Palm Sunday. But for those people living when that event took place, they were deeply into the Passover Festival. The Passover Festival was a time of celebration for the Israelites as they looked back to the days of deliverance when the Lord ushered His people out of Egyptian captivity. Once they left Egypt, they began the long journey to the Promised Land—the Land that the Lord had promised to His people centuries earlier. On that special day that the Scriptures refer to as The Triumphal Entry, Jesus was going to enter Jerusalem as the King of Peace. However, Jesus also knew that the Triumphal Entry would soon turn into the time in history when the Messiah would fulfill His work on earth and carry a cross to a hill called Golgatha. As you prepare for this Sunday, remember to come with hearts filled with anticipation and hunger for God’s presence. 
• As part of your preparation, I would like to ask all of you to read about this event in history. Spend some time reading this account in Mark’s Gospel story and ask the Lord to inspire your heart. When we think of Jesus bringing deliverance to the ancient world and Israel, I encourage you to think about your own personal deliverance. You know, Jesus is still delivering people today. What is it in your life that is leaving you feel as though you are separated from Jesus? He desires to deliver you! 
What is causing you to experience guilt or shame when Jesus is inviting you to experience His freedom from guilt? Jesus is inviting you to stand boldly before Him acknowledging His forgiveness rather than agonizing over your personal bondage! Remember friends, Jesus came to set the captives free!!! 
• Our second passage of Scripture reminds us that before Jesus made that final ascent into Jerusalem, He sat outside the city walls peering into the City He loved and wept. He did not weep over the ones who were going to crucify Him—He knew as the Son of God that their participation was a necessity to fulfill prophecy! He did not weep over the souls He knew had believed in Him as the Messiah—that was a joy to His heart not a point of grief that would lead to weeping! No! Jesus wept over all of the souls who would be led astray and who would (through intense peer pressure) join in on the loud proclamations that began with the High Priest as they chanted—Crucify Him—Crucify Him—Crucify Him! He wept that many would join in on that chant to crucify Him because they were blinded by sin. As a result, their eyes could not see that what they were doing was denying the Sovereign Lord who was about to bring ultimate deliverance and open the doors to heaven so that anyone who would believe in Him would not perish but receive eternal life. So, as you contemplate these deep truths, spend a little time praising the Lord God for His gift of salvation and Jesus’ gift of grace and mercy! See you Sunday pilgrims!

For at least the last decade of my “Long Road of Faith” I have been 
seeking the Lord’s guidance and inspiration concerning an 
important Biblical concept/theology. The understanding I have 
been seeking has to do with groups of people over centuries of life 
and faith that I have been reading about in the Bible. This group of 
people have been noted in the Scriptures from many generations 
of human existence. I have been spiritually intrigued by their lives 
and what the Bible says about them because I want to be included 
in “the Lord’s Remnant.” To put this in very simple terms, “The Lord’s Remnant” are people who live so 
devotedly to the Lord that the concept of idolatry sickens their spiritual health. The idea of thinking that 
multiple gods can lead to the One True God is repulsive to their minds. The notion that “a little bit of 
sin” never really hurts God’s followers because God loves them is literally a blasphemous consideration 
to their souls. In other words—Remnant People are kind of what the world today would call Jesus 
Freaks! And when I think about being a Jesus Freak, I am totally good with that—how about you??? 
• This Sunday we are going to be reading and considering what the prophet Zephaniah spoke to 
Judah concerning the sin that was rampant in the lives of the people and leaders of religious 
activity in Jerusalem. Like many of the Prophets of old, Zephaniah had the wonderful assignment 
of pointing out the spiritual wrongs that were happening so that the Lord could point out what 
needed to change. Folks—if we never know what is out of line with the Lord, we will never know 
what changes need to be made in our lives. As you prepare for Sunday, look once again at 2 
Corinthians 13:5 and engage with some spiritual self-examination. 
• As Zephaniah neared the end of his prophecy to the people, we witness some amazing 
comments about that group of people we know as The Remnant. In Zephaniah 3:13 we read: 
“The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the LORD. They will do no wrong; they 
will tell no lies. A deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths.” They will eat and 
lie down, and no one will make them afraid.” I desire to live my life like a remnant Christian! 
I desire to be a person who does no wrong and tells no lies! I desire to avoid all deceit in life and 
live a life that is so pleasing to the Lord that when He witnesses my behaviors and attitudes on 
this long road of faith that He will well pleased with my life. I too want to be able to lie down at 
night and know deep in my soul that I have nothing to fear because not only am I justified 
through Christ, I am also living devotedly to Christ each and every day. That is my heart’s desire. 
I pray for each of us that our desire is to be remnant people for the Lord our God! Lots more to

Sermon Contemplations & Preparations: 
Abram (Abraham) heard the voice of God inviting him into a relationship with the Lord Almighty. Once Abram received the invitation, he set out to travel to “a place the Lord would show him.” Abram packed up and moved from his lifetime home to follow the Lord. Within the context of this amazing story, Abram was longing for a son. As he shared his heart desire with the Lord, God made a covenant with Abram. As a result, the man of God lived in great anticipation for the child the Lord had promised. 
Our message for this week picks up during a time of deep confusion for Abram as he contemplated how the Lord’s promise (that Abram would become the Father of a great Nation) could be fulfilled when there was no son to carry on the family lineage. Next Wednesday, these contemplations, questions and ponderings will serve as our “Digging Deeper” discussion starters as we join together for our Wednesday meal and mid-week ministries! 
1. The first contemplation focuses on our desire to know when and how the Lord will fulfill His promises. Abram struggled to understand (like all of us) the: what’s, when’s, how’s & why’s of the Lord decisions concerning his future and the Lord’s promise? As you struggle through the processes of life and faith, how do you find rest in Gods design for your life and patience to wait for His timing in your life? 
2. In Genesis 15:4—6 the Lord tells us that Abram’s faith in God’s plan (even following a time of questions) became “his righteousness.” If you overheard the Lord talking to someone about your faith—would that be the way God described you? If not, what do you believe we should do or change on our faith journey for us to be considered “righteous” in the same manner as Abram was considered righteous? 
3. In Genesis 15:7—8 we witness Abram once again with another doubt riddled question concerning another one of the Lord’s promises. The main point that I would like to make for us in this story of God’s interaction with our lives is this: “having questions for God is vastly different than questioning God!” Questioning God’s motives, directions, decisions, etc. is not an acceptable practice for His followers. Asking God how things will work out when we do not understand is seeking God’s face and His wisdom for our lives. How do you personally seek God’s face and His wisdom as you go about your life and faith journey?
