We take it for granted that when we go to buy things by weight, that the electronic scale has been properly calibrated. In ancient Israel, such electronics didn't exist, and so, different weighted stones would be used as standards in order to weigh out items on scales. However, an unscrupulous person could carry a weight claiming that it was one size, when in fact it was heavier or lighter. Israel wasn't to engage in this practice by carrying around weights like this in their bags, one that would be used for buying and one for selling. Why? In Lesson 76 of our study of Deuteronomy we learn the answer to this question.
