Have you ever needed help finding something and finally thought about praying and asking God for help? In today's story, DeeDee is reminded of the story of Abraham's servant and the prayer that he asked God for help. Bible Text: "The servant took ten of his master’s camels and, loaded with gifts from his master, traveled to Aram Naharaim and the city of Nahor. Outside the city, he made the camels kneel at a well. It was evening, the time when the women came to draw water. He prayed, “O God, God of my master Abraham, make things go smoothly this day; treat my master Abraham well! As I stand here by the spring while the young women of the town come out to get water, let the girl to whom I say, ‘Lower your jug and give me a drink,’ and who answers, ‘Drink, and let me also water your camels’—let her be the woman you have picked out for your servant Isaac. Then I’ll know that you’re working graciously behind the scenes for my master.” It so happened that the words were barely out of his mouth when Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel whose mother was Milcah the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with a water jug on her shoulder. The girl was stunningly beautiful, a pure virgin. She went down to the spring, filled her jug, and came back up. The servant ran to meet her and said, “Please, can I have a sip of water from your jug?” She said, “Certainly, drink!” And she held the jug so that he could drink. The Threat of Artificial Intelligence Signs Accelerating [Prophecy Update]

Originally aired November 2022:  The Green Dragon Revisited The Globalists continue to push their “save the planet” false narrative on the world. In an effort to seize economic control and power, they are determined to destroy the economies of the nations (capitalism).  They are willing to allow mass starvation and death to millions by their green energy policies and by cutting the world off of fossil fuels. Recently, the UN is having its COP27 meeting this November to “save the planet,” which is really agenda 2030, with all the elites of the world, and this year it is in the Sinai Peninsula. Alongside this meeting, another group who will in attendance called the Interfaith Center for Sustainable Development will go to Mt. Sinai, promote religious ecumenism, and give their own 10 commandments for people of all religions to abide under to go green and serve the Whore of Babylon. This is the most sacrilegious and satanic thing these people could do. It is an affront to God, and only judgment can come to these people who are committing the ultimate blaspheme. Amos 3:7  A Love of The Truth

Before we can understand the development of disciples in Luke, we must first understand what it means to be a disciple … and how that differs from our traditional understanding.  It is a common misconception that those we refer to as Christians also fit Jesus’ definition of “disciple.”  In actual point of fact, most of today’s Christians are much more like the religious people of Jesus’ day: the Pharisees, Sadducees, Lawyers (bible scholars), elders, Rabbis, priests, etc.  
<o:p> </o:p>
Following Jesus is not an easy path, nor a cheap one.  It will cost us everything.  But it is worth it!  By accepting this challenge, we volunteer for a life that’s possibly void of many of the things we now rely upon: friends, family, money, sex, pleasure, wealth, popularity … but what we get in exchange is the kind of strength that relieves us of the need for those things.  We become so strong that we can live a life that would feel like torture to most people … and we can smile through it.  The storms that would mostly provoke others to terror – become opportunities for us to take a nap.  
<o:p> </o:p>
How do we get there?  We start small, and work our way up.  It all begins with commitment.  This is a commitment we can make because we trust God so much that we can give it all up, and trust that He will protect us while we care for others, and not for ourselves.  
<o:p> </o:p>
Only by making such a commitment will you ever understand Jesus.  You simply cannot have anything more than intellectual knowledge of him without the commitment.  But having made the commitment to follow Jesus and trust everything about yourself to God … you will discover “peace that passes understanding,” and “rest for your soul.”

This is the first of a series of lessons to teach discipleship from the book of Luke in the bible. 
This first lesson introduces you to the concept of discipleship.  It's not about being nice, or good.  It's not about salvation.  It's about being shepherded and guided by the master.  It's about being an apprentice. 
From Jesus' perspective, we are all part of God's household business.  We start out as apprentices, learning from the master, who is Jesus.  Jesus is the perfect craftsman in God's workshop - the Michael Jordan of God's business.  We volunteer to become a part of the workshop and serve with the master.  And that's how we learn ... by watching him, listening to him, and by starting to do our chores in the workshop.  As we develop, he gives us increasing responsibility. 
The life of a disciple is simply being a spiritual apprentice under Jesus' tutelage. It's not a digital thing, where one is either "in" or "out" of a club of saved people ... it's more like a school for those getting on the job training. 
At the end of the class we are introduced to the nature of Luke's writings and Luke himself.  This offers us a good perspective on Jesus and his work, so that we can vicariously join Jesus' original disciples and walk with them (and Jesus), and learn as they did.

This Sunday we’ll be looking at Luke’s account of the temptation of Jesus. We’ll be reading <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=luke+4%3A1-13&version=NLT" target="_blank">Luke 4:1-13</a>. This entire account is rife with symbolism, much of it acting as a hyper-link back to the Old Testament. Remember how we said that the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) basically tell one story over and over? Well, this is the core of it. A human is called to image God into creation, like Adam and Eve were intended to do – but there is a test to determine if they’ll stay true to that calling. Adam and Eve did not, and the result is the world we live in today.Over and over that pattern is repeated – from Abraham to Moses to Israel to her kings – and each time the choice is made to order things around human wisdom instead of God’s. It all culminates with Israel sent into exile, without form and void.The Good News is introduced into that repeated pattern – the Son of Man is identified and goes into the wilderness, ready to image God into the world, and he is tested. It is here that the pattern breaks.Jesus is tempted with three different suggestions from the satan. One thing I won’t be able to get into on Sunday is how each environment correlates with agencies of influence in Jesus’ day. The wilderness was the place of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zealots" target="_blank">Zealots</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicarii#:~:text=The%20Sicarii%20(Modern%20Hebrew%3A%20%D7%A1%D7%99%D7%A7%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%99%D7%9D,their%20sympathizers%20from%20the%20area." target="_blank">Sicarii</a> who hoped to gain power through an insurrection of outliers. The kingdoms were the realm of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herodians" target="_blank">Herodians</a>, who looked to leverage politics to gain power. Then there was the temple, where Israel’s spiritual leaders grasped for power through religion. I find it intriguing that Jesus is arrayed opposite of all of these.Jesus overcame these three particular temptations. What do you notice about how he did that. To what did he appeal in response to the suggestions? At one point, the satan quotes Scripture. What does that tell us about how Scripture can be used? Luke 4:3-4




The devil will always try to exploit our weakest places. Jesus hadn’t eaten for forty days. He would have been hungry in a way that I have never experienced. Every sinew in his body was surely longing for some food, so the thought that he could miraculously turn a stone into a loaf of bread must have been extremely attractive.
But Jesus knew that he must resist the temptation and he did so by using scripture. Jesus had been brought up on the Old Testament and so, immediately, he was able to rebuff the devil’s attack. Jesus knew that his priority must be for spiritual food; he couldn’t allow the devil to lure him into going for second best.
It is important we do not merely read the Bible but become familiar with it, so that in moments of pressure and challenge, we can recall verses that are precisely relevant to our situation.
When I worked in India, I remember it being said of a former bishop that it really wouldn’t have mattered if he lost his Bible, because he was so familiar with its contents.
I know many people have found it a blessing to read through the Bible in a year. I have certainly found it to be a very helpful discipline. Most readers would need only about 20 minutes a day to do that. Others like to listen to the Bible online. It really doesn’t matter how we do it, but we all need to become more confident in what the Bible contains.


When the devil invited Jesus to produce some miraculous food, he was seeking to divert him from his main mission, which was to bring spiritual sustenance to the people. Jesus wasn’t suggesting that there was anything wrong with bread.
It simply wasn’t his priority. Time and again we will find that the devil seeks to divert us with things that are good, knowing that the good is so often enemy of the best.

Lord God, forgive me for those times when I have focused my energies on good things and have missed out on the best. Please give me your strength to stand up to temptation. Amen

Today is Gospels Saturday, and we’ll read Luke 3 and 4. I’m calling this episode “Temptation” Also, remember that tomorrow will be out next time of praise and prayer requests.

Jesus gave us the perfect plan for when we are being tempted. Remember this, beloved. Jesus was fully human, as well as fully God. Jesus was a real, human man. So the temptations that Satan put before Him were real. They were not theoretical. 



Jesus had flesh. And notice the very first temptation Satan put in front of Jesus. Jesus had been in the desert for forty days and had not eaten. He was hungry. The very first temptation was for Jesus to turn the stones into bread. Satan knew that Jesus was a man, so he went after the needs of His flesh. Some people can't say NO to their flesh. I don't think I need to say that the temptations of the flesh are more than just food, do I? The desires of the flesh are some of our most basic urges. Animals are almost completely controlled by this, but humans have the ability to exert control over these urges. And God's Word is full of exhortations to do just that. We know that when we have the Holy Spirit in us, we *can* say no to the flesh. Not that it’s easy, but we *do* have the ability. We are not slaves to our flesh. Paul wrote at some length about that in the book of Romans.



The next temptation was, what some have called the lust of the eyes. I read this more as the lust for power. Satan showed Jesus all the nations of the world at one time, and said Jesus could have power and glory over them all if He would worship him. Some people have a ravenous desire for power. We saw that during the pandemic, didn’t we? Politicians and bureaucrats around the world took a level of control that no one would have believed possible before covid hit. They seemed to be drunk with power. And they will not forget how easy it was to exert that power.



The third temptation was for Jesus to force God to do a miracle to save Him. Another way to say it is that Satan tempted Jesus to twist Scripture. Some people crave signs and wonders. They'll follow anyone who claims to have a supernatural power. And, some people do twist Scripture for their own gain, don't they? The Antichrist will seem to have supernatural powers, and many will be fooled.



So these were the temptations. What did Jesus do in order to overcome each one? He correctly applied and quoted Scripture. Yes, Satan quoted Scripture to Jesus, but he twisted and misapplied it. Jesus did not twist it, and He correctly applied it. 



Beloved, this is why it is so important to know and memorize God's Word. If you listen to this podcast every day, if it is your aim to go with me all the way through the Bible, that's a great start. But unless you have a photographic memory, going through the Bible just once will not be enough. I pray that you will develop a life-long habit of reading through the Bible. I have a Bible that my great grandmother owned. There are notes in her Bible that show that she read the Bible through three times. But I have to think that this was not her only Bible. I would be shocked if she hadn't read the Bible through many, many more times in her lifetime. She passed away before I was a student of the Bible, so I never had a conversation with her about her relationship with God. I won't know how many times she read through the Bible until I see her again in Heaven.



As you probably know, this is the 13th season of the lsoyb. And do you know what? Even now, I'll read passages that seem completely new to me. I do not have the best memory, so it is really important for me to keep reading. God gave us His Word so that we could learn it so well that it becomes a part of us...

I have a Bible that my great grandmother owned. There are notes in her Bible that show that she read the Bible through three times. But I have to think that this was not her only Bible. I would be shocked if she hadn't read the Bible through many, many more times in her lifetime. She passed away before I was really a Bible student, so I won't know that answer until I see her again in Heaven.



I myself have recorded the entire Bible three times. And do you know what? Even now, I'll read passages that seem completely new to me. I do not have the best memory, so it is incredibly important for me to keep reading. God gave us His Word so that we could learn it so well that it becomes a part of us. Why? Because the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness tells us how Jesus overcame Satan's attacks. With the Word of God.



Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us:



10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Listen through the New Testament in a year, one chapter a day.
