Not everything bad that comes in our life is because God is mad at us or punishing us; sometimes it is just the fact that we are living in a broken, fallen world. But it is possible that God might be allowing some difficult thing in our lives because we are not humbling ourselves before Him. What should we do if that is true?

Where are you going? 1 Kings 18:21

God wants you to allow Him to take the impurities out of your life. 
 
No one is perfect, right? While that is true, it is not how God wants us to stay. If you are a Christian, the Holy Spirit lives in your and he is working to make you holy. He does that through a process of purification. He uses the circumstances of our life to reveal where we need work done. What we do once one of those areas is revealed determines what the Holy Spirit does next.
