The Holy Spirit Himself calls for the coming of Christ: "The Spirit...says, Come...." (Rev. 22:17), that is, "Come, Lord Jesus!" When the promise of the Spirit of truth was given, Christ said: "He will guide you into all truth: and He will show you things to come" (John 16:13). Ever since the Spirit descended upon the Church to abide with it, in all His gracious operations in the Church He makes reference to these things to come: to make them known, to awaken and nurture faith in them, and to prepare men to become partakers in their blessedness.
In all the Spirit’s operations there is therefore a constant looking and yearning for and unceasing call to the bright and morning star to come as promised to consummate the great work to which all the prophecy, faith, hope and graces of the Spirit have reference. It is by the Holy Spirit’s operations in the Church, that she also shall be ever unitedly crying, "Come, Lord Jesus!"
