 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 

There is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. Something has got to be done in 
us as well as for us. We want to proceed on the line of having things 
done for us, heaven intervening for us, our difficulties 
removed for us, having a straight path made for us. Heaven may be 
ready to come in, the Lord may be prepared to work for us, but it is not 
sufficient for Him – and it would not prove good enough for us – if that were 
all. 
The very principle of spiritual growth and maturity demands that He keeps 
the objective and the subjective balanced; that is, that something is done 
in us as well as for us. It is the principle of the Cross again. He 
died for us – that is the objective. We died in Him – that is the subjective. 
Here are two sides in spiritual experience. He keeps the balance of things. We 
have to have this balance wrought in us, and to be delivered from this tendency 
of allowing our problems to obscure the Lord, this inveterate habit of ours of 
viewing the position merely objectively instead of saying, "What does the Lord 
want to teach us about this? What does He want to do in us in this matter? There 
is something He is after in us." He has something to do in us 
before He can do it for us. How often we have found that when we have 
come to a new position with the Lord, when the thing has been done in us, then 
there has been outward movement. So the mention of the subjective exercise 
suggests that we have to take this matter to our own hearts as something which 
requires a change in us.

</blockquote>The type of plow employed has much to do with the resultant harvest. The primitive stick-plow places quite a limitation upon what will be harvested - if anything. But if the Husbandman's plow is cutting deep into our lives, we can expect a rich harvest. As Samuel Rutherford said, "Why should I start at the plow of my Lord, that maketh deep furrows on my soul? He purposeth a crop!""Doth he that ploweth to sow plow continually? Doth he continually open and harrow his ground?' (<a id="verse_1632878207949965" href="https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/Isaiah/28/24">Isa. 28:24</a>). No, of course not! It is a job that has got to be done - the breaking up, the turning over, the exposing to the elements, the harrowing. The Lord is speaking to His faithful people who are feeling that they are under the plow; furrows are being cut deep into their souls; they are being turned up and turned over, laid bare, exposed, broken, harrowed. The Father says, even to faithful people, This is necessary, we are looking ahead to a harvest, to real values; this is an essential aspect of the work. But. . . take comfort - this is not going on forever.'""No matter what we may encounter in this life, we who belong to the Lord Jesus have this definite knowledge - our Father will use it all in love as an instrument in the carrying out of the glorious purpose to which He has destined us. If that purpose is to be wrought by delivering us from a trial, He will do so.  Harvest Conditions 

The grace of God is His favor and acceptance to those who do not deserve it; who, in fact, deserve the very opposite; but who trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.Four of the better known verses on grace are these! "The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" (John 1:17). "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24). "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9). "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).Some extol God's grace as the chief of all His virtues. No wonder we sing of the amazing grace that saved such wretches!Then, too, God wants His grace to be reproduced in our own lives and to flow through us to others. He wants us to be gracious in our dealings with others. Our speech should be always with grace, seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6). We should impoverish ourselves that others might be enriched (2 Corinthians 8:9). We should grant favor and acceptance to the unworthy and the unlovely.

Truths to Live By - One Day at a Time

"The God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus…" (1 Peter 5:10)

You have seen the arch of heaven as it spans the plain: glorious are its colours, and rare its hues. It is beautiful, but, alas, it passes away, and lo, it is not. The fair colours give way to the fleecy clouds, and the sky is no longer brilliant with the tints of heaven. It is not established. How can it be? A glorious show made up of transitory sun-beams and passing rain-drops, how can it abide? The graces of the Christian character must not resemble the rainbow in its transitory beauty, but, on the contrary, must be stablished, settled, abiding. Seek, O believer, that every good thing you have may be an abiding thing. May your character not be a writing upon the sand, but an inscription upon the rock! May your faith be no "baseless fabric of a vision," but may it be builded of material able to endure that awful fire which shall consume the wood, hay, and stubble of the hypocrite. May you be rooted and grounded in love. May your convictions be deep, your love real, your desires earnest. May your whole life be so settled and established, that all the blasts of hell, and all the storms of earth shall never be able to remove you. But notice how this blessing of being "stablished in the faith" is gained. The apostle's words point us to suffering as the means employed-"After that ye have suffered awhile." It is of no use to hope that we shall be well rooted if no rough winds pass over us. Those old gnarlings on the root of the oak tree, and those strange twistings of the branches, all tell of the many storms that have swept over it, and they are also indicators of the depth into which the roots have forced their way. So the Christian is made strong, and firmly rooted by all the trials and storms of life. Shrink not then from the tempestuous winds of trial, but take comfort, believing that by their rough discipline God is fulfilling this benediction to you.
