Daily Light on the Daily Path or Daily Light is a Christian daily devotional scripture reading published by Bagster & Sons about 1875. It has been reprinted continually since then. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes—two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. It appends no commentary, but simply allows scripture to speak for itself.

“I am the bread of life” (John 6:35). “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:14). “I am the true vine” (John 15:1). “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25). Here is the great I AM saying what He is.  And then you notice how frequently He links with that a ‘shall’. The ‘shalls’ of the ‘I am's’ in John’s Gospel are tremendously impressive – not always using the exact word, but in the context you will find the same conclusion. But here are some of the ‘shalls’. “I am the bread of life... he that eats this bread shall live for ever” (John 6:58). “I am the light of the world; he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness” (John 8:12). The link between what He is and ourselves is this, “he that believeth on Me.” What I AM shall become true of him. “He that believeth on Me shall never die” (John 11:26), “...shall not hunger” (John 6:35), shall never wander like sheep without a shepherd, he shall have a governing, controlling reality like a shepherd in his life. “Shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” What I AM shall become true. “I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth on Me, though he die, yet shall he live; and whosoever lives and believes on Me shall never die.” What I AM is made good when you believe.  </p>
  <p align="justify"> Now it is not what 
  we are. I am dead; He is alive. I can never be other than dead, but He as the 
  Life can become Life in me in my death, if only I believe. I am hungry, 
  spiritually starved; He is Bread, and I need never hunger; although I shall 
  always hunger in myself, yet He will become the Bread to supply me. Think of 
  it! I need never hunger, I am down there in the country, isolated, getting no 
  fellowship, no food; I am away in some place where there is no spiritual 
  bread, and He says,

  eats Me shall never hunger.”</em> Is that dependent upon where I am, 
  what my situation and circumstances are as to available spiritual meat? No, it 
  is Himself, not a place; it is Himself, not circumstances. But how can it be? –

 The “SHALLS” of Christ 

<p>Our Savior Jesus Christ … has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. § I am the resurrection and the life. § Because I live, you will live also. § We have become partakers of Christ. § Partakers of the Holy Spirit. § Partakers of the divine nature. § “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. § Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. § The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.<br><br>Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another. § Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.</p>

 You are the salt of the earth. 

<p>I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. § God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. § For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. § When He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. § It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.<br><br>If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.</p>

 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. 

<p>As the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself … As the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.<br><br>I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. § I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep … I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father. § No one comes to the Father except through Me. § He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. § For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.</p>

 God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 

<p>The resurrection because the life. He is the life, in that by him our souls live before God, and draw from the everlasting fulness of divine grace, and are changed into the image of our heavenly Father. He is the life that came into the world by one gate, almost at the very moment when death entered it by another. When Adam tasted the forbidden fruit, Death entered in state and enthroned himself in the world, with his royal train of terrors and miseries; but Life also entered in the meek and quiet guise of the word concerning Christ; and has ever found some footing for itself from that time to the present. </p><p>Your brother is dead, you say, and buried. " Look upon me," says Christ, "and let your tears be dried; for I am the life. If your brother had life, that life is in me, my life is the pledge of his. Because I live, he shall live also. By faith perceive your brother clothed with the boundless wealth of the life that is in me. The life of your brother can only be reached through me." </p><p>" True, dear Lord, thou art the life; and he whom we mourn, as he believed on thee, must be in the realms of life and bask in the smiles of the Blessed. But his body anchored him among us; and we now have him not. All of him that was palpable and visible, all that the sun shone upon and the wind breathed upon, our breathing, speaking, hearing brother, our earthly companion, is a prey to death." </p><p>"I am the resurrection as well as the life. I am your companion; it is the privilege of believers to be present with me; your brother shall rise again. The incorruptible body of your Saviour is a pledge of the redemption of the believer's body from corruption. He that believeth on me is baptized unto the redemption of the body as well as of the soul. Faith brings to me a lost and corrupt soul; it brings me also a dead and corrupt body, and receives in exchange an imperishable, glorious body." </p><p>All that we have then to do with death, is to march through his dominions after the captain of our salvation, and issue, from the portal beyond, in body, soul, and spirit like him who is at the right hand of the majesty on high. </p>

&lt;p&gt;Mark">1 Corinthians 15:50-58</span></span></p><p>Mark';s observation "that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away" (<span class="scriptRef" ref="mr+16:4">Mark 16:4</span>) seems a simple statement, but behind it lies a truth that is positively staggering in its implications. One is that no longer can death be an intimidator. "Death," said someone, "is the great enigma of life; humanly speaking, it is the one secret of the universe which is kept, the silence of which is never broken." To the weary and despairing, death may come as a friend; the cynical and disillusioned may meet it with indifference; to the healthy and the happy it may appear as a foe; but it comes to all. Death is like a great stone that blocks the path of human aspiration. How certain can we be of the continuity of life beyond death? What modest person would find in himself anything worthy to endure for all eternity? Such questions have been asked down the centuries. Death is a mystery - "the undiscovered country from which no traveler returns." Then came the first Easter Day, and the stone was rolled away. One Traveler did return. Death is an abysmal cavern no longer but a tunnel with light at the farther end. If people have seen it as a blind alley, then they need think no longer in those terms. It is now a thoroughfare, a highway. "'Tis death is dead, not He," said the hymnist. The mystery is a mystery no more. The stone that was rolled away the first Easter morn was not just the rock that sealed the tomb. Our Lord rolled back for us the mystery of death also.</p><p class="center-it italic bold mlr40 mtb20">Lord Jesus Christ, I rejoice and rejoice continually in Your glorious and triumphant victory over death. For Your victory is my victory. Help me to live by it, in it, and for it. I am grateful to my depths - grateful forever. <p><span class="fs-17 fg-mustard bold">For Reading and Meditation:</span><br><span class="italic">     <span class="scriptRef" ref="joh+5:31-47">John 5:31-47</span></span></p><p>Jesus claimed to be greater than the Scriptures. Everyone else has to put themselves under the authority of the Scriptures. In one sense, of course, Christ subjected Himself to the Scriptures, but in another sense He was superior to them. He did not emerge from the Bible; the Bible emerged from Him. The Amplified Bible puts our text for today: "You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them ... And still you are not willing ... to come to Me, so that you might have life." We saw the other day how Christ declared: "One greater than the temple is here." He could also have said: "One greater than the Scriptures is here." A prominent theologian stated: "The Bible is the supreme method of communication between God and man." Is it? I thought Christ is the supreme method of communication between God and man. "There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus ..."  (<span class="scriptRef" ref="1ti+2:5">1 Timothy 2:5</span>). It is true that we would know little of Christ were it not for the New Testament. But Christ existed before the New Testament. I do not say this to denigrate the Scriptures in any way. They are divinely inspired and thus they inspire me. But the Person is greater than the product. We honor the product but only as it leads us to Christ's feet and to an allegiance to Him. Indeed, one greater than the Bible is here. </p><p class="center-it italic bold mlr40 mtb20">Lord Jesus, I am thankful for the Scriptures for many reasons, but most of all because they lead me to You. You are the Word that is bigger than men's words. Not a page but a Person. All honor and glory be to Your Name. <p><span class="fs-17 fg-mustard bold">For Reading and Meditation:</span><br><span class="italic">     <span class="scriptRef" ref="joh+20:24-31">John 20:24-31</span></span></p><p>Jesus Christ accepted worship as God. What other person in his right mind has ever made such a claim? Earlier Simon Peter had made the confession "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God"  (<span class="scriptRef" ref="mt+16:16">Matthew 16:16</span>), which was a profound and powerful statement. Some Bible scholars believe Peter did not perceive the complete significance of the words when he uttered them, but came to see their full meaning later. The twelve disciples, we must remember, were Jews to a man. They had been steeped in their high and ancient faith, and the belief in one God was firmly embedded in their minds. "Hear O Israel," they had said a thousand times, "the Lord our God is one Lord." They were sure the Messiah, the Promised One, would come, but they hardly expected God to come Himself, in Person, and in the garb of a working man. It was difficult for the disciples to grasp the doctrine of Christ as we know it today, or even the truth of the Trinity. They glimpsed it but did not fully understand it. It was Thomas the doubter, as we call him, who stepped nearer to the truth in the Upper Room after Christ had come back from the grave. If Jesus was a good man but not God then when Thomas said, "My Lord and my God," He should have turned to Thomas and told him: "You can admire Me but you must not worship Me. I am not God.' He didn't because He is God, and thus the right recipient of worship. </p><p class="center-it italic bold mlr40 mtb20">Lord Jesus, I stand in awe and almost dumbfounded wonder at the fact that You being God came to this world as a working man. My heart echoes Thomas's cry: "My Lord and my God." And in worshipping You, Lord Jesus, I know I am worshipping God.
