Daily Light on the Daily Path or Daily Light is a Christian daily devotional scripture reading published by Bagster & Sons about 1875. It has been reprinted continually since then. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes—two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. If we have committed ourselves 
to God thoroughly and really meant with the Lord that we want His full will and we 
do not want our own, and by His grace we will go the way that He leads and 
shows, whatever it costs, if we have done that and then situations have arisen 
which look terribly complicated and seem to contradict the faithfulness of God, 
what am I to conclude? What are we going to conclude? We have to conclude one of 
two things – that God cares nothing for all our devotion and consecration, and 
just lets us get into any mess, or else this is all under His eye. That is 
ultimate. We have either to believe God or not to believe Him. You have all this 
here in the Word, and it all bears down upon this, that people who are related 
in Divine foreknowledge and Divine sovereign action come into situations like 
that, but in the end that sovereignty has been shown to relate to something 
unusually precious to the Lord, "and they shall be Mine, saith the Lord of 
hosts, even Mine own possession, in the day that I do make" (Malachi 3:17).

The Lord is after something more than ordinary and He needs a people for it, but 
such a people will have unusual experiences, inside and out. It will not be the 
ordinary, normal course where everything goes well and straightforwardly. It 
will not be like that for these people. They go through ways that are tortuous 
and exceedingly difficult, but there is a sovereignty at work. That is my way of 
analyzing and summing up the situation as I see it in the Word, and I can only 
say to you that it is not foreign and strange to God's special purposes to have 
experiences like that. Whether it be the remnant of Israel, whether it be the 
reactions of God in this Christian dispensation, in the book of the Revelation, 
the messages to the churches which are just on this ground, it is all like this. 
Nothing seems normal with a people like that, because God is not going to have 
anything that is just normal, as we call the normal. It is something more, 
something extraordinary, and our experience therefore is extraordinary.

The centre-point of every human being is the will, and it is no use for us to talk about our having given ourselves to God, in response and in thankfulness to His gift of Himself to us, unless we come and say, " Lord, not my will, but Thine "; and bow ourselves in unreluctant and constant submission to His commandments and to all His will. We give ourselves to God when, moved by His giving of Himself to us, we yield up our love to Him; and love never rests until it has yielded up its will to the Beloved. He indeed gives, asking for nothing; but He gives in a still deeper sense, asking for everything - and that everything is myself. And I yield myself to Him in the measure in which I cast my thankful love upon Him, and then bow myself as His servant, in humble consecration, to Himself, with all my heart and soul and mind and strength. " They shall be My people." That is wonderful! It is strange that we can imitate God, in a certain fashion, in the gift of self; but it is yet more strange and blessed that God accepts that gift, and counts it as one of His treasures to possess us. Strange that the loftiest of creatures should be lifted higher by the poor, tremulous lever of my praises; and yet it is so. He takes as His such poor creatures, full of imperfection and tremulous faith and disproved love, as you and I know ourselves to be, and He says, " My people." Oh! it sometimes seems to me that it is more wonderful that God should take me for His than that He should give me Himself for mine. Have you given yourself to Him? Have you taken God for yours, by faith in that Lord "who loved me, and gave Himself for me"?  THE SAINT'S GIFT TO HIS LORD

For Reading and Meditation:      Malachi 3:13-18Although in Psalm 73 the psalmist is beset by doubt, he begins, nevertheless, on a triumphant note: "Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart." Preachers usually leave their conclusion until the end of their sermon - but here the psalmist begins with it! It might seem strange to some that the psalmist should begin with a conclusion, but this is often seen in the book of Psalms. And the reason is this: the psalmist is so convinced of the fact that God is good that he decides to start right there. It is as if he is saying: "I want to tell you how I moved from doubt to faith, but the thing I want you to get right away is this: God is good." Some commentators believe that in the Temple services there was a time of open testimony and worship, similar to that which featured in the old Methodist class meetings, when individuals gave testimonies to their fellow believers of God's dealings with them. This is one of the most powerful ways of building the spiritual life of the Church, but regrettably it does not seem to be widely practised today. If this psalm was part of the psalmist's testimony during an open time of worship, one can imagine the impact it would have made upon the hearers as he related how he emerged from crippling doubt to renewed confidence in the goodness of God. I know of nothing more motivating in the Christian life than for believers to identify and share the spiritual principles which have enabled them to overcome attacks on their faith. When we ignore this principle we do so at our peril.O Father, show us clearly how sharing with each other what You are doing in our lives not only inspires and motivates us, but greatly strengthens the Body. Help us restore this lost emphasis wherever it is missing. In Jesus' Name. The ESV is derived from the 1971 text edition of the Revised Standard Version (RSV). Grudem states that the committee removed "every trace of liberal influence that had caused such criticism from evangelicals when the RSV was first published in 1952." Although, Grudem also states that much of the 1971 RSV text left unchanged by the committee "is simply 'the best of the best' of the KJV tradition."

With regard to gender language, the ESV Translation Oversight Committee state that "the goal of the ESV is to render literally what is in the original."[9] The committee expands on this position in claiming that, although the ESV avoids using gender-neutral language (for the purpose of preserving contextual meaning found in the original text), the translation does utilize gender-neutral language in specific cases. The committee further state that their objective was "transparency to the original text, allowing the reader to understand the original on its own terms rather than in the terms of our present-day Western culture."[9] The ESV Study Bible often details in its commentary why a complementarian interpretation of the original text may have been rendered in translation.
