<p><span class="fs-17 fg-mustard bold">For Reading and Meditation:</span><br><span class="italic">     <span class="scriptRef" ref="ro+16:17-27">Romans 16:17-27</span></span></p><p>The subject of God's knowledge must be linked to His wisdom, and it is this aspect of the divine nature that we consider now. What does the Bible mean when it describes God as wise? It means the ability to use knowledge to the best possible ends. This ability is found in its fullness only in God. God is never other than wise in everything He does. Knowledge without wisdom would be pathetic; a broken reed. Wisdom without knowledge would be inoperative and quite frightening. God's boundless knowledge and wisdom are perfect in every way, and it is this that makes Him utterly worthy of our trust. One of the great difficulties we have in the Christian life is trusting the divine wisdom. We can recognize wisdom only when we see the end to which it is moving. God often calls us to trust Him when we can't see the end that He is pursuing, and then in such times we have to ask ourselves: How much do I trust Him? Before I began speaking to a Christian youth group once, I asked if someone could offer a definition of God's wisdom. One young man said: "God's wisdom is the ability to get us through scrapes and difficulties without getting hurt." I gave the young man full marks for attempting a definition, but I had to show him that was not what divine wisdom is all about. God's wisdom is not and never was pledged to getting us through life without being hurt. The goal behind divine wisdom is not to make us happy but to make us holy. And sometimes pursuing that goal may involve us in considerable pain.</p><p class="center-it italic bold mlr40 mtb20">Father, here I am again - at the road less travelled. Help me tread the road ahead knowing whatever pain You allow me to feel is for my good. I do not welcome it, but I do not run from it either, as long as You stay with me. <p><span class="fs-17 fg-mustard bold">For Reading and Meditation:</span><br><span class="italic">     <span class="scriptRef" ref="ps+104:1-35">Psalm 104:1-35</span></span></p><p>Now we consider God's might and power in the act of preservation. No creature has power to preserve itself. "Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh?" asked Job (<span class="scriptRef" ref="job+8:11">Job 8:11</span>). Both man and beast would perish if there were no food, and there would be no food if the earth were not refreshed with fruitful showers. As one preacher put it: "We came from God's hand and we remain in His hand." Think of the marvel of life in the womb. How an infant can live for so many months in such a cramped environment - and without breathing - is unaccountable except for the power of God in preservation. It was divine preservation Daniel was thinking of when he said to the godless Belshazzar: "You did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways"  (<span class="scriptRef" ref="da+5:23">Daniel 5:23</span>). Everywhere in the Scriptures God is presented not only as the Creator of the world but as its Sustainer and Preserver also. God has not wound up the universe like a clock and then separated Himself from it; He is active in sustaining it, and were He to remove Himself from it, it would cease to exist. The writer to the Hebrews reminds us that He is "upholding all things by the word of his power" (1:3, KJV). If the maker of some artifact were to die, his death would make no difference to it. It would continue to exist just as it did before. Not so with God and His world, however. If God were to die the universe would fall to pieces. But don't worry - God cannot die. The universe is quite secure.</p><p class="center-it italic bold mlr40 mtb20">O God, when I consider how You are my Sustainer and my Preserver my heart is humbled before You. You cannot die and because I am linked to You, I cannot die. I know my body will die but my soul is Yours - forever. Thank You dear Father. In 1604, King James I of England authorized that a new translation of the Bible into English be started. It was finished in 1611, just 85 years after the first translation of the New Testament into English appeared (Tyndale, 1526). The Authorized Version, or King James Version, quickly became the standard for English-speaking Protestants. Its flowing language and prose rhythm has had a profound influence on the literature of the past 400 years. The King James Version present on the Bible Gateway matches the 1987 printing.
