"I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. 2. I have spread out my hands all the day unto a (What kind of people?) rebellious people," Now, this is Israel! They've had the Word. They've had the prophets. They've had the temple. They've had the priesthood. But it didn't make any difference. They were just as rebellious and unbelieving as the Gentile pagan world around them.

"I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;" Now, lest you think that this is recent in Israel's history, go back with me to the last verse of Judges, and that would be chapter 21, and verse 25. Now, this is about shortly after they came out of Egypt. About 400 years before King David, and this is unbelievable. Samuel was the last of the judges, but this last verse just typifies ancient Israel almost from day one. Of course, Isaiah is now writing almost a thousand years later, and he's deploring the same fact.

But it is coming. God will have to do that if He's the righteous God that He claims to be. He has to deal in wrath and judgment before He can open up the doors of the Kingdom. In fact, I don't think I did it last taping although I intended to because it was at a point just shortly after the Tsunami horrors of Asia on December, 25, 2004. As people began to call, I referred them one after the other to Jeremiah 25, and now you can turn with me for a minute to Jeremiah 25. Since this is all fresh on our memory and seeing the horrors of the destruction that was all just along the coastlines. It hardly affected the inland.

In fact, do you remember, I think I mentioned it in our last taping which was shortly after the Tsunamis over there in Asia, that God does not precipitate these tragic events, Satan does.

"They are my people." Now he doesn't say that concerning Israel today. They are out there in unbelief. Now, what did this verse just tell us? That Israel realized they had sinned. Their iniquities were just compounded. All their so-called self-righteousness was like what? Filthy rags. Now, that's even filthier than what we normally think of. The filthy rags here were really the cast-off rags of a leper with all of its filth. That's what self-righteousness is in God's eyes. 
 
 
All right, so we're going to use this half-hour, since I've been talking so much about the wrath of God that's coming upon Christ-rejecting mankind, and so that no one who hears my voice will be able to say, if they find themselves in that kind of wrath and vexation, "Well, God, you're unfair. I never had a chance."

You remember in the last program, we pointed it out, how when the Jew is under the influence of the new covenant, nobody will have to ask, "Is that a believing Jew?" They will all be filled with the knowledge of God and His righteousness.

Now, here's one place I'd better stop and remind you, because it's been a long time since I've done this. When you see the word LORD, capitalized, as it is here, all four letters L-O-R-D in capitalization, that is in reality -- Jehovah. So they, more or less, used the term LORD because the Jews have such awe for the name of Yahweh, or Jehovah. Always remember that Jehovah and Christ are one and the same in personality. So, it's God the Son. Always remember that.

This is the beauty of Scripture. It all fits! Exodus 19 and just for sake of time lets go all the way back to verse 3. Now remember the setting. Israel has just come out of Egypt. They've come through the Red Sea, and they're gathered at Mount Sinai. Moses has now gone up unto God.

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2. To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,..." That's where he stopped in Luke chapter 4 - right in the middle of the verse. And, of course, that's why the Jews were aghast and stared Him down. Consequently, He stood up then and said, "This has been fulfilled in your ears." He knew that the rest of those statements would not happen for another 2000 years or more. That's why, with His knowledge of the Deity, He could do that. 
 
 
Now, in a little bit we're going to come to Peter doing the same thing, but he doesn't have the wherewithal, the knowledge that Christ had, to stop where he should have stopped. Peter takes it all the way to the end of the prophecy, thinking, of course, that the timeline of the Old Testament prophecies was going to keep right on going. All right, so here's the whole concept of these last couple of programs, how we can take prophetic Scriptures and show, graphically, how the first part was fulfilled at His first coming. The rest has been pushed out into the future. But, these people didn't know that. They were expecting all this to happen in their lifetime.

Isaiah 61:1-2a

The kings of the earth (in this case, Rome) set themselves, and the rulers (of Israel) take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying" You know how they did it, even as we reflect back on the movie "The Passion of the Christ." 
 
 
Psalms 2:3 
 
"Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us." Or God's leadership. They didn't want it. Then verse 4 is God's response from Heaven. It was that He sat and laughed a laugh of derision. 
 
 
Psalms 2:4 
 
"He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision." After they've rejected the Messiah and put Him to death, this is the next step in the Old Testament prophetic program.

All right, so we're going to go into chapter 61 as we come toward the end of the book of Isaiah. Here we have the unfolding of literally the whole prophetic program. Now, before the program is over, I'm going to go to a timeline on the board. We're going to show how all the Old Testament prophecies, especially since the call of Abraham and all the way up through the Book of Revelation, not counting Paul's epistles, are all looking forward to the things that would unfold for the Nation of Israel. Everything concerning the Old Testament prophecies is zeroed in on the Jewish people, the Nation of Israel. So, you take Israel out of the mix and you cannot fulfill prophecy. It's just as simple as that. So, contrary to a lot of these theologians, you see, I can look at all these Scripture verses and say, "Now, you're going to tell me that's not valid? That God lied?" But, He didn't, and they are still valid.

You know, we were so thrilled with our daughter when in the height of her injury that just recently happened (Sept. 2004) she just sort of whispered to her Mom, "If one soul is saved through all this, then it's worth it."

Okay, now this is Isaiah addressing the nation of Israel, but in the same light, let's jump all the way up to the Apostle Paul and his appeal to the Gentile world and you and I living today in our particular time. 
 
 
Come up with me to Romans. We're going to start with chapter 5 for just a moment, because we've already seen how Israel was steeped in sin and unbelief, but so are we. So, the appeal is the same. Let's drop down at verse 20, and then we're going to go to chapter 10.

"For a small moment I have forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee." This is the hope of Israel. One day, they are still going to have all these Old Testament promises fulfilled and Christ Himself will be their King. Now, let's go on into verse 8. 
 
 
Isaiah 54:8 
 
"In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; (for a little while) but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer." Now there's comparativeness. Here 3,000 years compared to eternity is what? A moment. None of us can have a concept of eternity. It's just beyond us. But eternity is eternity is eternity. And 3,000 years of time as we know it is just (snap) nothing. All right, so he makes this comparison, now then, verse 9.

61 3 2 Through the Bible with Les Feldick   The Glorious Promises to Israel: Isaiah 54:1 - 57:1

Okay, we'll pick up where we left off after the last taping and the prophecy concerning Christ's crucifixion -- the graphic description of His suffering and His death in chapters 52 & 53. Let's go on into chapter 54 as we come into the glorious promises that will follow Israel. First, after they've come back from the Babylonian captivity, they re-establish Temple worship. But the big picture, remember, which is what we're always looking at, is after the horrors of the seven years of Tribulation. Christ will return and Israel is going to have all these Old Testament promises fulfilled. This is what we're going to look at right here. 
 
 
Isaiah 54:1a 
 
"Sing, O barren, (Well, what does singing remind you of? Good feelings, joy, and happiness.) thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child:..." More than likely, what Isaiah is referring to are those years when Israel was spiritually dead. There were hundreds of years where Israel was steeped in their unbelief and their rebellion, and, consequently, there was no joy or an increase in blessings or anything else. So, now with the hope of this coming kingdom, they can sing like one who has travailed.

Let's go on into chapter 54 as we come into the glorious promises that will follow Israel. First, after they've come back from the Babylonian captivity, they re-establish Temple worship. But the big picture, remember, which is what we're always looking at, is after the horrors of the seven years of Tribulation. Christ will return and Israel is going to have all these Old Testament promises fulfilled. This is what we're going to look at right here.


Isaiah 54:1a

"Sing, O barren, (Well, what does singing remind you of? Good feelings, joy, and happiness.) thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child:..." More than likely, what Isaiah is referring to are those years when Israel was spiritually dead. There were hundreds of years where Israel wa

Isaiah 44:26a 
 
"That confirmeth the word of his servant, (that is Israel) and performeth the counsel of his messengers;..." Now, there I have to think, what's he referring to? The Word of God. This whole book comes from the pen of what people? Jews. Every one of them a Jew! Don't ever buy the gimmick that Luke was a Gentile. He couldn't have been. He had to be a Jew to be a writer of Scripture because it's "God's servant" that wrote the Word, as we see in Romans 3:1. 
 
 
Isaiah 44:26b 
 
"...that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited;..." Now, here's a reference to when He has emptied them out for those seventy years of captivity and Jerusalem is a shambles, it's empty, it's lying waste. He's going to bring Israel back. 
 
 
Isaiah 44:26c-27 
 
"...Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, (after they come back) and I will raise up the decayed places thereof. 27. (I am the God. I'm putting that in now only for clarification.) That saith to the deep, be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers: " If God wants the Euphrates to be dry, He'll dry it up.

Isaiah 44:26a
