Song # 2191 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Holy Bible, we read on a number of occasions about warnings from both God and our Lord Jesus against listening to false prophets. In Micah chapter 2, we read that God warns about false prophets and evildoers. 
“Do not prophesy” their prophets say. “Do not prophesy about these things; disgrace will not overtake us” (Micah 2:6). Should it be said, oh house of Jacob: “Is the Spirit of the Lord angry? Does He do such things? Do not my words do good to him whose ways are upright?” (Micah 2:7). “Lately my people have risen up like an enemy. Without a care you strip off the rich robe from those who pass by, like men returning from battle” (Micah 2:8). “You drive the women of my people from their pleasant homes. You take away my blessing from their children for ever” (Micah 2:9). “Get up, go away! For this is not your resting place, because it is defiled, it is ruined, beyond all remedy” (Micah 2:10). “If a liar and deceiver comes and says, ‘I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer’ he would be just the prophet for these people” (Micah 2:11). 
Thought for today: God’s certainty will see us through life’s uncertainties.

Song # 2069 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Jeremiah chapter 51 that God is warning his people to flee Babylon before the Lord destroys her. 
I will stir up the Spirit of a destroyer against Babylon and its people (Jeremiah 51:1). I will send foreigners to Babylon to devastate her land; they will oppose her on every side in the day of her disaster (Jeremiah 51:2). Let not the archer spring his bow, nor let him put on his armour. Do not spare her young men; completely destroy her army (Jeremiah 51:3). They will fall down slain in Babylon, fatally wounded in her streets (Jeremiah 51:4). For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the Lord Almighty, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel (Jeremiah 51:5). Flee from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be destroyed because of her sins. It is time for the Lord’s vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves (Jeremiah 51:6). 
Thought for today: trust in God today and prepare for your tomorrow.

The Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament section of the Holy Bible is a collection of moral and religious teachings, mostly in the form of short sayings. Many of the Proverbs deal with every day matters including common sense and good manners, and most are still relevant to us today. The song “The Righteous Stand Firm” comes from Proverbs 10. 
What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted (Proverbs 10:24). When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone; but the righteous stand firm for ever (Proverbs 10:25). As vinegar is to the teeth and smoke is to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him (Proverbs 10:26). The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short (Proverbs 10:27). The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing (Proverbs 10:28). The way of the Lord is a refuge for the righteous, but it is the ruin of those who do evil (Proverbs 10:29). The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land (Proverbs 10:30). The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out (Proverbs 10:31). The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse (Proverbs 10:32). 
Thought for today: God’s certainty will see us through life’s uncertainties. 
Thought for the future: His love was shown when He came to us as a man. Where will you spend your eternity?

Waves of enemies will rage like great waters, the roar of their voices will resound (Jeremiah 51:55). A destroyer will come against Babylon; her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken. For the Lord is a God of retribution; He will repay in full (Jeremiah 51:56). He will make her officials and wise men drunk, her governors, officers and warriors as well; they will sleep for ever and not awake declares the Lord Almighty (Jeremiah 51:57). Babylon’s thick wall will be levelled and her high gates set on fire; the peoples exhaust themselves for nothing, the nation’s labour is only fuel for the flames (Jeremiah 51:58). 
Thought for today: eyes of faith see God’s work.

Song # 2157 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Jeremiah chapter 19 that the Lord will bring disaster on the people for their wickedness. 
This is what the Lord says (Jeremiah 19:1). “Go out to the Valley of Ben Hinnom, near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate. There proclaim the words I tell you (Jeremiah 19:2), and say ‘Hear the word of the Lord, oh kings of Judah and people of Jerusalem. This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen! I am going to bring a disaster on this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears it tingle” (Jeremiah 19:3). “For they have forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have burned sacrifices in it to gods that neither their fathers nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent” (Jeremiah 19:4). “They have built the high places of Baal - something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind Jeremiah 19:5). “So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter” (Jeremiah 19:6). “In this place I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. Thought for today: turn away from wickedness and turn to God, your eternal future depends on it.

“Do you think this is just? You say ‘I shall be cleared by God’” (Job 35:2). “Yet you ask Him, ‘What profit is it to me, and what do I gain by not sinning?’” (Job 35:3). “I would like to reply to you and to your friends with you” (Job 35:4). “Look up at the heavens and see; gaze at the clouds so high above you” (Job 35:5). “If you sin, how does that affect Him? The Lord said to Moses “What is that in your hand?” “A staff” Moses replied (Exodus 4:2). The Lord said “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and Moses ran from it (Exodus 4:3). Then the Lord said to Moses “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand (Exodus 4:4). “This” said the Lord “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers - the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob - has appeared to you” (Exodus 4:5). Then the Lord said “Put your hand inside your cloak” so Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was leprous, like snow (Exodus 4:6). “Now put it back into your cloak” the Lord said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh (Exodus 4:7). Then the Lord said “If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first miraculous sign, they may believe the second” (Exodus 4:8). “But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. Moses said to the Lord “Oh Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant, I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10). The Lord said to him “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord?” (Exodus 4:11).”Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say” (Exodus 4:12). But Moses said “Oh Lord, please send someone else to do it” (Exodus 4:13). Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and He said “What about your brother, Aaron, the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and his heart will be glad when he sees you” (Exodus 4:14). “You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do” (Exodus 4:15). “Aaron will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him” (Exodus 4:16). “But take this staff in your hand so that you can perform miraculous signs with it” (Exodus 4:17). 
Thought for today: when God forgives, He restores the soul. 
Thought for the future: we can’t see God’s hand, but we can trust His heart. Where will you spend your eternity?

While the Israelites were in the desert, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day (Numbers 15:32). Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly (Numbers 15:33), and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him (Numbers 15:34). Then the Lord said to Moses “The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp” (Numbers 15:35). So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses (Numbers 15:36). 
Thought for today: face your sins, repent and put them behind you. 
Thought for the future: God’s help is only a prayer away. Where will you spend your eternity?

Is no secret hidden from you?” (Ezekiel 28:3). “By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself and amassed gold and silver in your treasuries” (Ezekiel 28:4). “By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth and your heart has grown proud” (Ezekiel 28:5). “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says; ‘Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god” (Ezekiel 28:6), “I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your shining splendour” (Ezekiel 28:7). “They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas” (Ezekiel 28:8). “Will you then say ‘I am a god,’ in the presence of those who kill you? Her fall was astounding; there was none to comfort her. Look, oh Lord, on my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed (Lamentations 1:9). The enemy laid hands on all her treasures; she saw pagan nations enter her sanctuary - those you had forbidden to enter your assembly (Lamentations 1:10). All her people groan as they search for bread; they barter their treasures for food to keep themselves alive. Look, oh Lord, and consider, for I am despised (Lamentations 1:11). Is it nothing to you, all who pass by? Look around and see. Is any suffering like my suffering that was inflicted upon me, that the Lord brought on me in the day of His fierce anger? The Lord will do the same to all the kingdoms over there where you are going” (Deuteronomy 3:21). “Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you” (Deuteronomy 3:22).
