The purpose of our class is to study the Word of God with the goal of knowing Him, His character and His redemptive plan. We believe the Bible is one, harmonized story: His-story as expressed by our Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:27). It is only by realizing the harmony of God's Word that people can know His will accurately and worship Him correctly. Welcome to the class!

After selecting 12 men from His many disciples to be His "sent ones", Jesus retires to the hills of Galilee to deliver what has been called "The Great Sermon of the Greatest King". In September, Grace to You sponsored a conference called "Strange Fire" that addressed the tenants, errors, and effects of the Charismatic Movement over the last thirty years. Along with John MacArthur, Phil Johnson, Steve Lawson, R.C. Sproul and others, a brother/pastor from Africa, Dr. Conrad Mbewe, also spoke. I had never listened to Brother Mbewe nor heard of him. However, his messages in particular sparked great concern in my heart for the influence of the modern charismatic movement and how American charismatic figures have promoted the spread of its doctrines and tenants. 
 
In our continued study of the Gospels, we examine Jesus' ministry -- His preaching and miracles -- in Mark 1:29-39. Specifically, we examine the place and purpose of healing and casting out of demons. We look at the biblical history of these extraordinary events. Most importantly, we try to discern the characteristics of authentic healing and the supremacy that Jesus placed on preaching the Word. 
 
As part of this study, I strongly recommend to all viewers that you also watch Dr. Mbewe's sermons (if not all of the Strange Fire preachers) located at the Grace to You website. There is a Strange Fire link that will allow you to download many of the sermons and lessons.

This week, we examine the story of Jesus and Nicodemus, the "teacher of Israel". We try to unravel some of the confusion typically associated with the terms "born again" and "born of water and Spirit". Similarly, we work to keep very popular verses within the context of the historical conversation between Nicodemus and our Lord. 
 
Lots of discussion between participants contributed to the longer study time; so, please forgive the editing. We tried to keep the important portions of the study without burdening our viewers too much.

I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard!" 
 
...and the time of the great Revelation and the Seven Churches of Asia Minor found in the 2nd and 3rd chapters of Revelation. 
 
The other apostles are probably dead. John is writing about 90-95 a.d. when John's First Epistle was penned. He is old, and he wants to help true Christians know with surety that they are saved and children of God. He writes this in 1 John 5:13 ~

To achieve this assurance, John presents a series of tests. They fall into two categories: doctrinal tests and behavioral tests.
