Song # 2205 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Habakkuk we read that he is concerned with the Babylonians being in power, and the Lord answers him.
“Look at the nations and watch - and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told” (Habakkuk 1:5). “I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwelling-places not their own” (Habakkuk 1:6). “They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honour” (Habakkuk 1:7). Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong, their horsemen come from afar. They fly like a vulture swooping to devour” (Habakkuk 1:8), “they all come bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand” (Habakkuk 1:9). “They deride kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; they build earthen ramps and capture them” (Habakkuk 1:10). “Then they sweep past and like the wind and go on - guilty men, whose own strength is their god” (Habakkuk 1:11).
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands.
Thought for the future: now is the time to invest in heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?
