This podcast addresses what scripture reveals about all Christians being equipped by God to serve Christ. Many false ideas about Christian growth have been promoted in recent church history. What we identify from the bible is how God causes Christians to function in their place as building blocks in the building of God mentioned in
Ephesians 2.
Ephesians 4:12 has been wrongly translated and interpreted to promote a strong clergy/laity distinction and the “high church” idea of ministry. In that case, professionals do ministry and the people are the subject of that ministry. We show that this passage actually teaches that all believers are equipped for ministry. We discuss the many abuses that have come from a wrong understanding of this. Even church architecture can show the influence of the strong church hierarchy understanding that has been common in church history. We claim that this is not the biblically defined church. The Roman Catholic church fails on nearly everything that Ephesians says about the church. In truth, all of those born of God are part of the “one new man” of
Ephesians 2:15 and are to be equipped for Christian service. We strongly warn against making up doctrine to suit the emotional needs of church members. We must go by scripture alone. This podcast ends with a careful look at the text of
Ephesians 4:12 from the Greek. When grammar and context are properly understood, the fact that every believer is to be equipped for ministry is clear.
