Jesus chooses the leaders who are called to announce the New Covenant by sharing the Word and by their actions. Jesus has established a new relationship between God and the people. It is not based on laws and fears, but on the love and compassion of God. The law and the threat of punishment had their time and their way in the Old Covenant. It is similar to the way parents of young children need to be “strict” and let them know that there are consequences for disobedience. As children turn into young adults, the love of parents changes from being strict (still loving) disciplinarians to that of counselors and guides. There is a new bond of mutual trust and appreciation. With the increased freedom comes a greater need for responsibility – the “ability to respond” to what God has done for us. So we who have benefitted, tasted the goodness of a more mature relationship with our God must take serious our call to live as responsible members of the Reign of God. We enjoy being loved by a compassionate and forgiving GOD, so we must extend the same towards others. Like the first disciples, we must be willing to go out and proclaim the Good News of the Lord Jesus. We go forth to do God’s will and be instruments through which God can reach out the divine, healing hand to all of us who need it.

Dearest Lord, help us to live as responsible disciples and faithful ambassadors of Your love. Amen.

Godbls us and our homes!
