It is easy to fall into the temptation to focus on the externals: going to church, giving, serving in various capacities, and etc... thinking that is all that God cares about. When we do that, that is being outwardly religious and having a heart that is far from God. We need to remind ourselves that God cares more about the heart (godliness) than what we can do for Him.
