*Public Confession of Sin:
Our Father, you are the eternal God who is without beginning and without end, the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last. Before the mountains were brought forth or ever the earth was formed, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. With shame we confess that we have not loved you unreservedly with heart, soul, strength, and mind. Though parents do not forget their families nor brides neglect their dresses nor children ignore their toys, yet we have forgotten you days without number. Our thoughts have been preoccupied with things of this world. Has not our attention been fixed on the desires of the flesh? And our reflections gripped with the desires of the eye? And our concern obsessed with the pride of life? How often have we choked our souls with earthly stuff and worldly cares? Teach us to treasure your name above all. Help us to love you first and foremost, and please forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Minister: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
Unison: That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and redeemed me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that all things must work together for my salvation. Wherefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live unto Him.
