We live in an ownership society. If a farmer grows a crop in his field and someone else comes and plucks an ear of corn to eat, then that person has committed theft. Such was not necessarily true in Israel though under the Law of Moses. Why did God allow people to pluck grain in another person's field? In Lesson 71 of our study of Deuteronomy we learn the answer to this question.
