When God’s Ways Make No Sense – Mark 16:1-14

In 1960, Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church was first organized in a small frame building at 3602 Drew Street in the Third Ward area of Houston under the leadership of Reverend Norris Terry.  Reverend Terry resigned as Pastor after four years of service.

• Reverend Willie E. Powell 1964 to 1981
He was instrumental in moving the church from it's original location.

• Reverend Curtis Wallace 1981 to 1990
Under his leadership a larger place of worship was built adjacent to the existing edifice.  The old building was renovated unto classrooms, a spacious cafeteria and a small Chapel.  Reverend Wallace resigned as Pastor in 1990.

• Reverend Terry K. Anderson 1991 to Present
Lilly Grove called Reverend Terry K. Anderson of Eunice, Louisiana to become the fourth Pastor, on December 18, 1990. Reverend Anderson began his tenure as Pastor on the first Sunday in February 1991.

Mark gives a brief but powerful affirmation of the resurrection of Jesus. In doing so, he leaves the reader with the most important question any person will ever face, whether to flee from Christ in fear, or to come to Christ in faith. The woman at the center of this story, who fled in fear, would of course eventually come to faith in their risen Lord. Mark hopes that all who read his words will come to the same conviction.

We stepped out in obedience, and Bible Time with Mark & Cori was born. Inviting our faithful friends to join us on this journey has become the most special time of our day. We are not theologians or teachers, we are simply lovers of Christ who want to learn more about Him and make Him #1 in our lives.

Being intentional about our time with the Lord has opened our hearts to His Word and His leading in our personal lives as well as the direction He desires for our business. Resurrection Sunday 2022 
 
The New Testament describes the Resurrection of Jesus Christ as an historical event, claiming that a physically dead Jesus rose up from the grave three days after His death on the cross. Over 500 eyewitnesses saw Jesus alive after He came back to life. In one of the earliest New Testament writings, the apostle Paul said many of those eyewitnesses were still alive and could be interviewed by any person choosing to investigate the Resurrection event. 
 
Now, what difference could it make to us if Christ was raised from the dead? Isn’t the whole idea of Easter just a spiritual warm-fuzzy, a metaphor for springtime and renewal, based upon a rehashed pagan celebration and merely designed to prop up the image of a good man who had a very tragic death? Why would it even matter to us that Christ was raised from the dead?

Leader: What is your only comfort in life and death? 
People: That I am not my own, but belong - body and soul, in life and in death - to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. 
 
Leader: How does Christ’s resurrection benefit us? 
People: First, by His resurrection He has overcome death, so that He could make us share in the righteousness He had obtained for us by His death. Second, by His power we too are raised up to a new life. Third, Christ’s resurrection is to us a sure pledge of our glorious resurrection.

Resurrection Sunday 2022

The New Testament describes the Resurrection of Jesus Christ as an historical event, claiming that a physically dead Jesus rose up from the grave three days after His death on the cross. Over 500 eyewitnesses saw Jesus alive after He came back to life. In one of the earliest New Testament writings, the apostle Paul said many of those eyewitnesses were still alive and could be interviewed by any person choosing to investigate the Resurrection event.

Now, what difference could it make to us if Christ was raised from the dead? Isn’t the whole idea of Easter just a spiritual warm-fuzzy, a metaphor for springtime and renewal, based upon a rehashed pagan celebration and merely designed to prop up the image of a good man who had a very tragic death? Why would it even matter to us that Christ was raised from the dead?
