Fully convinced as I am, that the welfare of man kind can be promoted by nothing so effectually, as by the maintenance and diffusion of the Christian religion; and also, that our religion, when deprived of its fundamental doctrines, loses its efficacy, as an instrument for insuring our virtue and happiness, I consider myself bound to support, by every means in my power, that most holy faith which was once delivered to the saints - I mean pure and orthodox Christianity.
