William Swan Plumer (1802-1880) was an American Presbyterian minister who wrote extensively on theological matters. His commentaries on Psalms, Romans and Hebrews are held in high regard even today. His style is to gather the very best of the commentators before his time and then weave in his own remarks. A comprehensive section of ‘Doctrinal and Practical Remarks’ is added making these commentaries of considerable value to preachers and pastors, covering a very extensive and interesting range of thought. At times he addresses the reader directly to press home the importance of a spiritual point; he wrote not merely to analyse the text of the Psalms, but to find their message to the heart of each one of us.
