If ever a generation was bequeathed the knowledge of God, we were. Yet we are throwing away this glorious heritage on our lust and passions.

To take up your cross means to associate yourself with Christ and to share His rejection. It means you take a stand for Christ even though people make fun of you, persecute you—or even kill you!

Only God knows when the alarm will sound, ending the work and ministry of evangelism as we have known it.

Hardship is not our choice; but if we face it bravely, it can toughen the fiber of our souls.

One of the ways God has revealed Himself to us is in the conscience. Conscience has been described as the light of the soul. Even when it is dulled or darkened by sin, it can still bear witness to the reality of good and evil, and to the holiness of God. What causes this warning light to go on inside me when I do wrong? It is my conscience, given by God to steer me away from evil and toward good. Conscience can be our gentlest teacher and friend—and sometimes our worst enemy (or so we think) when we sin. The Scripture says, “Man’s conscience is the lamp of the eternal” (Prov. 20:27 MOFFATT). In other words, conscience is God’s lamp within the human breast. In his Critique of Pure Reason, Immanuel Kant said there were just two things that filled him with awe—the starry heavens above and human conscience within. Persistent sin can dull or even silence our conscience. On the other hand, persistent attention to God’s Word will sharpen our conscience and make us more sensitive to moral and spiritual danger. Is this happening in your life?

A survey reported that the majority of the seminaries [in the United States] had no classes on prayer. That really shouldn’t surprise us when we consider how many local churches offer classes on gardening and the “Art of Conversation” instead of the study of God’s Word and prayer.

Prayer is not our using of God; it more often puts us in the position where God can use us.

We live in an upside-down world. People hate when they should love, quarrel when they should be friendly, fight when they should be peaceful, wound when they should heal, steal when they should share, do wrong when they should do right.

Ancient historians tell us that one of the symptoms of a declining civilization is a desexualization of the human race, with men becoming more effeminate and women becoming more masculine, not only in physical [appearance] but in their basic characters.
