When the Detour Becomes the New Road — Vaneetha Risner
When my plans go awry, I always want to believe that I have taken a temporary detour. Maybe it’s a long one, but I hope I’ll soon be able to return to the way things used to be. Is there purpose in the pain and suffering we experience, especially when it isn’t in our plan?

Praise and Give Thanks – Pathways to Organization
I want to share with you a Proclamation of Thanksgiving from President George Washington, 1789: “Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both House of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to ‘recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceable to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.’ “ But when we should be thankful, don’t we all complain about things—not just big ones but little ones too? But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.” Numbers 11:4-6 ESV The children of Israel forgot that God had brought them out of oppression. Manna from Heaven Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life. Philippians 2:14-16 ESV May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

On going back to Egypt – Attempts at Honesty
“Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, “Oh that we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”” (Numbers 11:4–6, ESV)
