Zechariah 8:2. I was jealous for Zion, &c.— As a husband for his wife. See Ezekiel 16:0 and Hosea 2:0. "I have punished her infidelities with all the severity of despised and abused love; but, though sensible of her fault, my love is rekindled towards her, upon her change of conduct, and return in true repentance to me. "Thus saith Jehovah: I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called the city of truth; and the mountain of Jehovah of hosts, The holy mountain."The punishment of Israel, God's unfaithful wife (an analogy used throughout the Bible) being completed, God promised here to return to Zion and Jerusalem.
