Desired to find a tabernacle - This was in David's heart, and it met with the Divine approbation: see 2 Samuel 7:2 , etc., and see the purpose, Psalm 132:2-5 ; but, as David had been a man of war, and had shed much blood, God would not permit him to build the temple; but he laid the plan and made provision for it, and Solomon executed the design.
