2 Chronicles 25:1-Hosea : . The Reign of Amaziah.— This section is taken from 2 Kings 14:1-Song of Solomon : with some considerable additions and modifications characteristic of the Chronicler.
2 Chronicles 25:1-Numbers : . See notes on 2 Kings 14:1-Joshua :; the Chronicler omits all reference to worship on the high places.
2 Chronicles 25:5-2 Samuel : . A midrashic expansion of 2 Kings 14:7, forming a background to the verses which follow.
2 Chronicles 25:7 . a man of God: i.e. a prophet ( cf. 1 Samuel 2:27, etc.).
2 Chronicles 25:11-1 Chronicles : . the Valley of Salt: cf. 2 Kings 14:7, 1 Chronicles 18:12
2 Chronicles 25:12 . and cast them down from. . .: cf. Psalms 141:6.
2 Chronicles 25:14-Nehemiah : . This account of Amaziah’ s idolatry has no parallel in 2 K.; it is perhaps the work of the Chronicler, who added it in order to give a reason for the defeat of the southern kingdom ( 2 Chronicles 25:17-Jeremiah :).
2 Chronicles 25:17-Jeremiah : . Amaziah is defeated by the northern kingdom (see notes on 2 Kings 14:8-2 Chronicles :).
2 Chronicles 25:20 . An addition by the Chronicler; cƒ . 2 Chronicles 25:14 f.
2 Chronicles 25:24 . This is an addition by the Chronicler. For Obed-edom, see 1 Chronicles 26:15.
2 Chronicles 25:25-Hosea : . The remaining years of Amaziah’ s reign; his death: see notes on 2 Kings 14:17-Proverbs :.
2 Chronicles 25:27 . The conspiracy here referred to may well have taken place owing to the discontent which Amaziah’ s disastrous policy must have occasioned; it is mentioned in 2 Kings 14:19 f The reference to Amaziah’ s falling away from Yahweh is again due to the Chronicler.
