Ephesians 6:17

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Ver. 17. The helmet of salvation ] Hope which holds head above water, and maketh the soul with outstretched neck expect deliverance, Romans 8:19 , crying out not only, Dum spiro, spero, While living I hope, but Dum expiro, spero. While dying, I hope.

And the sword of the Spirit ] Wherewith our Saviour beat the devil on his own dunghill, the wilderness, fetching all out of that one book of Deuteronomy,Matthew 4:4; Matthew 4:4 . See Trapp on " Mat 4:4 "
