Or "cut them down," i.e; destroy them from being any longer nations, but not exterminate them, as is generally supposed. David had a "Hittite" among his "mighty men" ( 2 Samuel 23:39 ), and was on friendly terms with Araunah the "Jebusite" ( 2 Samuel 24:18-24 ).
