Dividing the water before them; literally, cleaving the waters before their face (comp. Exodus 14:21 ). To make himself an everlasting name (see Exodus 15:11-16 ). It was one of the main purposes of the entire series of miracles wrought in Egypt, "that God's Name might be declared throughout all the earth" ( Exodus 9:16 ).
