Besides the parallel passage, Luke 12:9 , cf. the similar thought in Mark 8:38 (parallel passages: Luke 9:26 ; Matthew 16:27 ). But whosoever shall deny me before men . Kubel compares St. Peter's words, "I know not the man" ( Matthew 26:74 ). Him will I also deny. The emphasis is on "deny" (cf. 2 Timothy 2:12 ; Ign., 'Smyrn.,' § 5).
