Mark 15:11 - Exposition

But the chief priests stirred up the multitude ( ἀνέσεισαν τὸν ὄχλον ), that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. St. Matthew ( Matthew 27:20 ) says, "They persuaded the multitudes" ( ἔπεισαν τοὺς ὄχλους ). St. Mark's word ( ἀνέσεισαν ) implies a rousing of their bad passions; agitating them to a blind zeal for his crucifixion.
