(Latin: aspiro, to breathe)

Any prayer said in a breath, containing therefore not more than 12 or 15 words; another term for ejaculatory prayers. It is always applied to very short a prayers, containing lofty sentiments, expressed in choice language, sometimes in rhyme, similar to proverbs, e.g., "My Jesus mercy"; "O Sweetest Heart of Jesus I implore, that I may ever love Thee more and more"; "O Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to thee." Many of these are indulgenced.
