Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, born near New Ross, Ireland, 1786; died Carlow, 1834. As bishop he published many pamphlets and letters repelling the attacks of Protestants and describing the evils of the state of Ireland. Summoned for examination before two Parliamentary committees, it was remarked that it was he who examined them. He vigorously supported O'Connell, tbough after the passage of the Catholic Emancipation Act the two men frequently disagreed. His zeal in his diocese was unbounded.
