Name of Our Lord (Matthew 1:25). It is the Latin form of the Greek, Iesous; Hebrew, Jeshua; Joshua, meaning "Jehovah is salvation," and interpreted by the Fathers as Saviour. The name is celebrated by the Feast of the Holy Name, and venerated especially by the Holy Name Society as a means of correcting the habit of profanity, and cultivating a spirit of reverence.
