Confessor, first Patriarch of Venice, born Venice, Italy, 1381; died there, 1456. He was a descendant of the Giustiniani, a Venetian patrician family which numbered several saints among its members; he entered the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine on the Island of Alga near Venice; ordained in 1406, he was elected prior of the community, and shortly after general of the Order, of which he is generally considered the founder because he drew up the constitution.
