Bishop of Munster, missionary among the Frisians and Saxons, born Zuilen, near Utrecht, c.744;died Billerbeck, Westphalia, 809. After studying at York, he was ordained at Cologne, 777, and devoted himself to evangelizing the Frisians and Saxons. He was consecrated Bishop of Mimigernaford, 804, and from the monastery he erected there, the present city, Munster, derives its name. Patron of Werden, East Frisia, and Deventer.
