A race of people who occupied the eastern part of Scotland. Probably of Celtic origin mixed with a remnant of a pre-Celtic race, the date of their arrival in Scotland is unknown. They were defeated by the Romans in 369. After their conversion by Saint Columba in 565 they formed a close connection with the lrish Church. In 844 the Picts and Scots were united under Kenneth MacAlpine.
